First roll of black & white photos with Pentax Spotmatic F

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Got my first film of b&w processed (taken by my pentax spotmatic f), realized that for shooting in black & white I would have to compensate for my shots or used a zoning system. Some shots I messed up so bad, some I got fairly right. Need to practice even more =)

Pentax Spotmatic F (SMC Takumar 1:55 f1.8)

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

My mother-in-law asked me to check an old camera they have stashed away. Lo and behold, to my surprise it was a Pentax Spotmatic F with Takumar 1:55 f1.8, 1:200 f4 and 1:35 f2 lenses. Obviously, the camera needs some repair as it was not been used for years. The 200mm and 35mm lenses already have a huge amount of mold and I suspect it is beyond cleaning.

I took it to Quiapo to have it repaired and the 55mm lens cleaned. I waited for it for about 2 hours because I wanted to try it out already. I asked the repair man if this was a good camera – he said without hesitation, yes.

I tested it on my son’s birthday and I can say that this camera even after so many years of not having been used still takes sharp pictures. Although I used it indoors and got a lot of blurred shots (because the ISO is fixed and unlike a digital camera you can change ISO) I am still happy with the way this camera performs.

Some sample shots are below. Film used is Kodak Gold 100. Photos are unedited and scanned (sorry don’t have a film scanner yet and I don’t want to wait two days to have the film transferred to cd)

Two months ago I ditched my Nikon D80 and used a Canonet 28 Rangefinder, and now that I have a Pentax Takumar in my possession, I am completely migrating to film photography.

Happy New Year!

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Not even rain can stop the people of Tañong, Malabon from celebrating New Year’s Eve. The tradition of building life-size paper mache of famous cartoon character still continued and then paraded the streets of Tañong, Malabon. And, at the strike of 12 midnight, this paper mache will be blown up to pieces using firecrackers.

Christmas Day photos at San Bartolome Church Malabon

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Yesterday was a good day for street photography, mainly because there are a lot of people out there, mostly children. And, people don’t mind to be photographed =)

While tempting, I can only take a few shots as I have to continually watch my two kids as they ran across the busy crowd at the San Bartolome Church. Here are some photos:

Photos from the Sea, Malabon and Navotas

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

When I shoot photos outside, I usually allow myself to wander around a certain place. I’ve been coming back and forth in the Navotas Centennial Park, there are a lot of good subjects there if you allow yourself to be patient, and I guess same goes with any other place.

Malabon Christmas Festival 2008

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

I was busy finishing a project when I heard fireworks outside. I asked my wife what it’s all about and she said it has something to do with an event at the Malabon City Hall, and I told her why she didn’t tell me about it! So I hurriedly grab my camera, went outside to take a shot of the fireworks display.

I was trying to look for a good angle, found a good spot and I’m ready to take a shot, I reach for my camera and then, the fireworks stop =/

Anyways, just decided to shoot the area within the city hall…photos below…sigh…

Heaven Smiling Back

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Have you had a chance to look at the sky last night? Apparently, heaven was smiling =)
I went outside to capture it in photo, but, to my frustration I couldn’t get a good shot (I need that tripod!) Anyway, here is what I was trying to photograph – from another guys photo.
